you need too many
Words--
their lacquer-thin fragility
comforts only the elements of the night,
confronts the birds of the air
in downward swerve,
defines defines defines
our progress
within the spheres,
among the doves and griffins,
beside the anxious pale-faced
handmaidens
who hush in sweet smiles
and help us understand
the comfort of old thoughts
that
meander purple in the night
alighting finally
in the shadowed fragrance of your hair.

Oh, and oh... the real thing Sir! How I have missed it in this oubliette of Hallmark passions! There ARE poets! Thank you! Happy Valentines! lily
Hola tocayo.
This a truly beautiful and lyrical poem.
Roberto
Gentle yet powerful imagery: Words, "too many words", with their "lacquer-thin fragility", are hushed, making room for "the comfort of old thoughts", which alight finally "in the shadowed fragrance of your hair."
Hopefully you'll share more of your poetry and writings here.
I'm not good at poetry or understanding poetry, but your poem is very touching. I hope I get this right.
I get the feeling that there is an elusive pursuit to define the feeling of love, elusive because it cannot be defined in words, but only in the being. And when the answer comes, it isn't anything hard and fast, but the entire essence of that love is wrapped up in something as simple as a fragrance and perhaps the idea of the touching of her hair. But the fragrance carries everything - all the memories and the embodiment of who she is.
I had to really think about the, "elements of the night," but I realized that there are many unseen things in the darkness and when I figured that, I started to understand.
At the very least, take this as a compliment - a great poem must be read and read again for it to be understood. A great poem identifies with each person differently. I think yours did that well.
Thank you very much for sharing something that is obviously near to your heart. And thank you for inviting me to read it, I know snatches of this poem will bubble up in my head for weeks to come.
Thank you kindly moonfroth.
Robert, this is your concience, will you not bless us with your words? speak of the hot sun, and languid lips, and the shells of souls you saw...? I abjure you, are there no published works? Pls. let me know. perhaps, tho I'm sure your published, we could share the same publisher....? lily
Robert-
I am reluctant to say "I love this" or that, but damn, I really do love how your poems take me on a rhythmic lyrical sleigh ride...the beginning never revealing the journey's trajectory, the phrasing unique, the destination invariably satisfying.
I am very happy to have stumbled upon your poems. I always leave feeling a good deal better than before my visit.
And "hush", this was just the right amount of words, skillfully chosen and artfully arranged...an evocative vignette.
